英国驻上海总领事
2019年7月17日晚，英超亚洲杯半决赛在南京奥体中心开战，曼城、纽卡斯尔联、西汉姆联、狼队四支英超顶级球队角逐进入上海总决赛的机会。这是英超亚洲杯暨2009年北京赛事以来首次重返中国内地，赛场上座无虚席。前来观战的广大球迷中，还包括刚刚履新的英国驻上海总领事，胡克定（Chris Wood）。胡克定来自狼队的故乡--胡弗汉顿，他不仅对自己家乡球队参加英超十分自豪，也借此次足球赛事谈到了英国足球文化以及江苏与英国双边关系的广阔前景。
足球是联系中英的重要纽带
本届英超亚洲杯突破传统，首次在南京和上海两地举行。“我认为这次的创新可以让更多的中国球迷一睹球队风采。无论是南京的球迷，还是上海的球迷，都有机会一览英超四支顶级球队在赛场上的精彩表现。”同为足球迷的胡克定总领事如是说。
The 2019 Premier League Asia Trophy unconventionally sets two hosting cities, Nanjing and Shanghai.“ I think this is an opportunity to allow more Chinese football fans to see the teams. The fans in Nanjing, as well as the fans in Shanghai, get to see four of our top teams from the English Premier League”, commented Chris Wood, who was born a football fan.
足球作为一项无国界运动，不断拉近着中国和英国的距离，成为联系两国的重要纽带。总领事告诉记者，“我很高兴这四支球队来到南京，展现原汁原味的英国足球文化。”不过，本次亚洲杯的成功举行绝非偶然，而是英国与江苏长期文化交流的一部分。胡克定表示，“当然，在未来的日子里，我们也将继续举办大量活动，加强两地联系。”
As a popular sport across the world, football is an important link between China and Britain, bringing the two countries closer and closer. According to Chris Wood, “it’s great that we have four teams here, again, showing the best of English football.” However, it is no accident that the Asia Trophy was successfully held, instead, it was the embodiment of the long history of culture exchange between China and the UK. Chris Wood ensured that “we will also be moving forward with lots of activities in the coming months and years.”
三个层面加强交流与合作
在总领事胡克定的采访中，他强调中英在三个层面的交流与合作，即“政府间合作，企业间合作以及民众的交流”。
The concept of “government to government relationship, business to business relationship, and people to people relationship” recurred in our interview with theConsul General.
在这三层合作关系中，总领事尤其强调加强两国民众间的文化交流。“现在有越来越多的中国游客前往英国，我们表示热烈欢迎”，胡克定继续说道，“更重要的是，现在也有越来越多的英国游客来到中国。”
Chris Wood put special emphasis on the third level, people to people relationship, among the three. “The number of Chinese tourists to the UK is going up and up, and we very much welcome that. But there are more, more British tourists coming to China”, said he.
教育也是中英文化交流非常重要的一部分，一方面表现在两国学生到对方国家学习交流，另一方面表现在大学以及研究机构之间的紧密合作。总领事举例说道，“牛津大学落户苏州，剑桥大学、伯明翰大学、伦敦国王学院都在南京落户。” 中国和英国正在通过三个层面，不断加强文化交流与合作。

Education is another crucial part in the cultural exchange between China and the UK. On one hand, a considerable number ofstudents from China are studying abroad in the UK and vice versa;on the other hand, Chinese and British universities and research centers have been working closely. “Oxford has a relationship with Suzhou. Cambridge University, Birmingham University, King's College London all have links with Nanjing”, said Chris Wood. China and the UK are strengthening culture exchange and cooperation on these three levels.
大国携手解决世界难题
中国和英国的关系正处在“黄金时代”，胡克定总领事对两国未来的关系也充满信心，“我认为两国未来发展势头良好，中英合作关系有着非常稳固的基础。”
With China and Britain’s relation entering the “GoldenEra”, Consul General Chris Wood showed great confidence in the future, claiming that “We have a very positive future together. We have a very strong basis in our relations.”
中国和英国同为世界大国，在面临全球性挑战时，应当携手同行，承担责任。胡克定总领事强调，“我们必须合作，也只有合作，才能解决例如气候变化和环境挑战等重大的全球性问题。”
When faced with global challenges, China and the UK, two world powers, ought to collaborate and take on responsibilities together. Chris Wood stressed that, “We can only work together. We have to work together on tackling some of the major global issues, particular issues like climate change and environmental challenges.”
比如在解决环境问题这一方面，英国驻沪总领馆正在积极采取措施，号召民众关注环境问题。胡克定说道，“在接下来的几个月里，我们将围绕环境和可持续发展、气候变化、新能源和可再生能源等主题开展 ‘绿色之美’系列活动。”
For example, British Consulate General in Shanghai has been taking active actions with regards to solving environmental problems, calling upon the public’s awareness for environmental issues. According to Chris Wood, “We will be running a ‘Green Is Great’ series of campaigns around the environment and sustainable development, climate change, new and renewable energies.”
